time to eat
It is important to us at the Tiny Tribe that children know where their food is coming from. Time is spent each day helping to prepare food for lunches and snacks.
Meal times are one of out “together” activities.
Generally children arrive between 8am and 8:30am and we prepare breakfast snacks once everyone has arrived.
Simple guidelines I follow:
I see the food we provide as either Go or Slow foods. Go foods being the healthiest food that can be eaten anytime and slow foods are the ones that are ok sometimes. This informs what we put on our menu.
Focus on wholesome and nutritious foods.
Include treats but keep them as low in sugar as possible.
Involve children in preparing meals where possible. Celebrate what they have made, share the experience from preparation to eating.
Being physically active throughout the day.
The meals we cook are from the recipes we have put together below. We keep flexibility what we serve on any particular day so we can take into account tastes and wishes of the children attending on any given day.
